Abstract

The production of high-quality Portland cement depends heavily on the role of various binding agents, including lime and gypsum. This study explores the mechanisms and processes by which lime contributes to the hydration, hardening, and durability of Portland cement. Additionally, the study categorizes lime-based reactions into three primary types: carbonative, hydratative, and hydro-silicate hardening. This paper provides insights into the chemical and physical interactions of lime with other components, its influence on the mechanical properties of cement-based materials, and the conditions necessary to optimize the reactions. Recommendations are also made for future improvements in the production processes.
